Category talk:Graduating classes

I find categories superior to manually-created list pages because sometimes I'll be reading an article and I'll want to find similar ones, and it's convenient to have the category link right at the bottom. List pages do have the advantage of allowing comments to immediately follow. So, should we combine the best of both worlds when possible? I.e., should Category pages be forwarded to their list pages? - Mpnolan 00:04, 4 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Sure, categorize everything. And when a category itself should have a real article, forward it to the article. Makes sense to me. -Chrax
What about a template that has each class in a box on the side? That way they could just click on a different class directly from an article instead of having to go to the classes category page.--Andy 19:31, 4 Aug 2005 (EDT)
It's not much more work to click on the category, and having that template would crowd the page (which might be acceptable if it were used often, but I doubt it would be.) Plus, for consistency we'd want to do this for all categories with a constant number of items. This is too much work for such little payback. - Mpnolan 02:39, 5 Aug 2005 (EDT)
I don't think that follows, Mike. (Also, why not just steal a template from the Wikipedia and fix it up? It's not hard. That's what I did for the Math template... though it is ugly. You know someone should get around to fixing that.) -Chrax
Which part "doesn't follow"? - Mpnolan 22:58, 5 Aug 2005 (EDT)
That for consistency we'd want to do this for every category. Most of the consistency we enforce is within loosely defined categories. For instance classes: We try to keep consistency there, but they're already within their own category. -Chrax
