Classes taught

Style & personality

Dr. Steiner is a good teacher. Unlike some teachers in this department, he does not use powerpoints. Instead, he walks around the front of the room orally presenting his notes, making for stimulating lectures. The first 5 or 10 minutes of class consist of him talking about ideas and such from the previous lecture, and then he starts that day's lecture. He goes at a slow pace, so you're not scrambling to get your notes written down, but not too slow that you're bored out of your mind. Just right.

Dr. Steiner is also very funny. He never misses a chance to through in a good joke, anti-Canada or anti-Arkansas, for example (The Articles of Confederation only had one branch, just like a family tree in Arkansas.)

People aren't afraid to make comments in class every once and a while, so his class can get a little off-topic at times. (Russia had very little to do with the American Revolution, neither did Putin.)

He focuses on the ideas behind history just as much as he does the actual facts. This provides a really good understanding of it, instead of just memorizing facts all hour.

Student opinions

David: I highly suggest taking Dr. Steiner for History, at least so far I do. I haven't had any tests yet, but when I do, I think I'll do ok. He is beyond amazing.
