The Student Government Association is the governing body of the students at the Missouri Academy. Just like any other school, we have our student government.

Components of the SGA

The SGA is made up of:

Executive Board

The Executive Board ensures that the performance of the SGA is at an acceptable quality. The Executive Board is voted upon by the student body has many responsibilities. The Executive Board is made up of:

President

The current President of SGA is Daniel Brigham.

Duties and Privileges:

  • Presides over the SGA regular meetings, executive meetings, and open meetings
  • Prepares an agenda and is responsible for the distribution of the agenda to the SGA members
  • Maintains order and gives members of the SGA the floor
  • Suspends members of the SGA's speaking privileges if members of the SGA are out of order
  • Holds the highest position that is neutral to the policy of the SGA and must have no vote
  • Chairs or appoints a chairperson to chair the Yearbook Committee

Vice President of Internal Affairs

The current Vice President of Internal Affairs of SGA is Jessica Hoffman.

Duties and Privileges:

  • Presides over the SGA meetings in the absence of the President
  • Holds the highest position with a vote
  • Chairs or apoints a chairperson to chair the Student Activities Committee
  • Organizes the Prom Committee
  • Works with the Student Activities Coordinator (Billy Melosevich)

Vice President of External Affairs

The current Vice President of External Affairs of SGA is Aaron Baker.

Duties and Privileges:

  • Acts as the liaison between the Academy students to the Northwest Student Senate
  • Chairs or appoints a chairperson to head the Resident Hall Association delegation
  • Appoints one first year and one second year to be on the RHA delegation
  • Keeps the Academy students informed about pressing campus issues
  • Attends campus meetings where Academy students will be affected in anyway
  • Abides by both the Northwest Student Senate and the RHA constitutions

Secretary

The current Secretary of SGA is Kacy Krehbiel.

Duties and Privileges:

  • Records minutes of all SGA meetings and is responsible for distributing the minutes to the memebers of SGA
  • Chairs or appoints a chairperson to chair the Residential Life Committee
  • Maintains records of wing game points in the absence of a Student Activities Coordinator

Treasurer

The current Treasurer of SGA is Tara Banaszek.

Duties and Privileges:

  • Formulates a budget for the SGA
  • Chairs or appoints a chairperson to chair the Community Service Committee
  • Organizes the trimesterly philanthropic project

Parliamentarian

The current Parliamentarian of SGA is Ramandeep Babbra.

Duties and Privilieges:

  • Maintains order in all SGA meetings
  • Remains competent of parliamentary procedure
  • Chairs or appoints a chairperson to chair the Special Interest Committee

Wing Representatives

Wing Representatives are the bulk of MASGA. Wing reps take the information they gather from the SGA meetings and disperse it to separate wings and then brings there wing's opinions to the SGA meetings.

Duties and Privileges

  • Acts as the liaison between SGA and the respective wings
  • Posts or holds meetings about the information from SGA meetings
  • Attends all SGA meetings

Advisor

The SGA Advisor is the person who sits in our meetings and makes sure everything going on is legitimate. Of course, this job falls onto the shoulders of the Director of Student Development who is Doug Daubert. Who He is

Duties and Privileges

  • Attends all SGA meetings
  • Works with the Treasurer on the budget
  • Okays everything going through SGA
  • Acts as the liaison between the Staff and SGA

Committees

Most of the SGA business is supposed to run mainly from committee which give weekly reports to the SGA.

Yearbook Committee

The Yearbook Committee is, of course, in charge of the yearbook.

Currently the chair of the Yearbook Committee is: Emily Heidbreider

In the years past, the committee has decided to go with a digital yearbook. This year the committee is seriously looking into paper yearbooks. If anyone has different wishes than a paper yearbook, contact Emily Heidbreider or anyone in SGA or on the Yearbook Committee.

Dr. Robert Theodore is the advisor to this committee.

Student Activites Committee

The Student Activites Committee works hard to organize and lead student activites. Dances, contests, and other activities are planned in this committee. Prom Committee also is a quasi-branch of this committee. Student activities are so important in the Academy life that there is a separate budget apart from the SGA budget for it.

Currently the chair of the Student Activities Committee is: Jessica Hoffman

Billy Melosevich is the advisor to this committee and Prom Committee.

Residential Life Committee

The Residential Life Committee works hard to continually improve the quality of living in the Academy. The committee does this by offering ideas to the Director of Student Development. Currently, the committee is working on getting cheap phones for the lounges, opening up fob doors a half an hour early, and getting a juice machine which was successful by the way.

The current meeting time and place is: 400 on Mondays in the Conference Room

Community Service Committee/Club

The Community Service Committee strives to help the community in the best possible manner. This committee actively seeks community service opportunities such as prairie restoration at local national wildlife refuges or cleaning up the local town or helping serve the local school. Not only do members of this committee perform community service for fun, but they also help organize community service events.

Currently the chair of the Community Service Committee is: Tara Banaszek

Matthew Garrett is the advisor to this committee.

The current meeting time and place is: 10 pm on Wednesdays in the Conference Room

Special Interests Committee

The Special Interests Committee works on the overflow of the other four committees. Events that are not under the jurisdiction of the other committees are organized through this committee. This committe also works on the bulletin board on the second floor. The election guidelines are formed by this committee. Furthermore, the elections are a part of this committee's responsibilities. Lastly, this committee organizes the senior gift.

The current meeting time and place is: 10 pm on Tuesdays in the Couch Corner of the Academic Office

RHA Delegation

The RHA Delegation represents the Academy residents to the Northwest Resident Hall Association. Members of the delegation are responsible for getting issues for the Academy pushed in RHA. Also, members of this delegation must adhere to the RHA constitution.

Currently the chair of the RHA Delegation is: Aaron Baker

The current meeting time and place is: 5 pm on Wednesdays somewhere in the Station
