Ubuntu
"Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, that means "humanity to others" or "I am what I am because of who we all are". The Ubuntu Linux distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.
Ubuntu is a Linux operating system based off of Debian GNU/Linux, and is designed to be an extremely user-friendly distribution. Like most distros, Ubuntu has a community of users and developers that share knowledge and experience in a forum, though unlike many distros, Ubuntu sports an excellent support staff. Ubuntu also comes with over one thousand pieces of software, including OpenOffice, Gnome 2.8, the new Linux 2.6 kernel and several mulitmedia programs comparable to Windows Media Player.
Ubuntu has always been, and will always be free. This is a statement that the Ubuntu community has been stating ever since it's creation. This is possible because Canonical Ltd. heavily supports the Ubuntu project.
