Yes... we definitely need more users. We could send out a Acad wide email - Stuey

I don't think we need such agressive methods. Personally I would be annoyed and potentially turned off to the idea by such tactics. -Chrax
I think more people will go to it. It hasn't bee up long. - Stuey
An Academy wide mail is a bad idea. If I get one of those I'm going to become a troll. Just so you guys know. -goofyheadedpunk
I'll become a notorious mime. -Squishypickle

Stu makes a good point: This fucker's been up for about 4 days. Let's put this stuff on hold until... maybe a week after we go back, and then we can decide whether or not it's getting decent exposure. -Chrax

So I'm going to remove the link from the front page. It's a bit early to be worrying about this. -Chrax

See look at that, Helen's already joined. This is becoming a hit! -Chrax
It takes a long time for stuff to find its way to google, even if the googlebot visits your page millions of times. I dont know why. -Squishypickle
The googlebot and the actual database are two separate things. The site is processed a bit ( no one knows how ) before entering the database. Normally the process is supposed to take 2 weeks for a moderately linked page. Of course this is only for the web search. Generaly the google image thingie is about 6 months behind. -goofyheadedpunk
Apparently the google cache just got updated (on the 19'th) We're now the #1 site under 'moacad' and on the first page for 'masmc'. How google does it's 'Page rank' is based on how many sites link to the particular page. If this page is linked to by 2000 other pages it will be up top, however if some page about monkeys that live in the depths of the ocean are linked to 2001 times then that will be first (assuming the monkey pages has a correct keywords such as 'masmc'). The algorithm also takes into account what sites link to it. If were linked to by www.ed.gov it will be 'worth' more than a link form my xanga page. Therefore if I post a link to this page from Slashdot it will get more attention from google. (It may or may not be coincidence that google updated it's cache 3 days after a link to my profile page showed up on the slashdot front page) (note: attempts to 'rig' the google results will get a page banned from google. However, I don't know how they decide if links and such are 'aggressive' and for the purpose of raising the page rank) --Andy 04:46, 23 Mar 2005 (EST)
