Defininition[edit]

From the Wikipedia:

In linguistics, a neologism is a recently coined word, or the act of inventing a word or phrase. Additionally it can imply the use of old words in a new sense such as giving new meanings to existing words or phrases. Neologisms are especially useful in identifying inventions, new phenomena, or old ideas which have taken on a new cultural context. The word "neologism" was coined around 1800 and was, at the time, a neologism itself. A person who develops a neologism is sometimes called a neologist; neology is the act of introducing a new word into a language.

Terms[edit]

The Neologisms known to have been created by Academites are:

Academite - refers to a student at the Academy. Probably introduced previously, but entered the lexicon via the "Academite Hunter" recruitment video.

Buddah - Brian Troutwine's religious preference according to Northwest; the obese prarie dog featured on the Gandalf flag.

Big man in a chair Abe Lincoln - Often used as a title in response to someone who is giving orders or acting in a position of authority. For example, an RC may say, "You need to clean your room, chief," to which you might respond, "Oh, we've got a Big man in a chair Abe Lincoln in town." This term originated when Mike Nolan was trying to make a point in Dr. Shively's Composition I class and entered into a chaotic frenzy of linguistic nonsense in the process, of which this phrase was a key part. It has become something of an inside joke on 3W.

Fooding - In the academy, all words can be verbs. We don't go eat, we go fooding.

Foofing - Academites have been known to foof other academites randomly. This entails throwing a foof on a fellow acad (who already happens to be lounging on a foof--or near a foof that you can push them down on) and jumping on it--getting off only when forced or when deemed appropriate.

Lazy Box - The common name of the Academy's elevator--or any elevator, for that matter.

Nombie - The monsters in Resident Evil 4. The game makes it clear that you're not dealing with zombies, so the phrase "not zombies" was shortened to nombies.

Re-Foofing - Action that makes your foof poof-up again. You re-foof when your foof chair becomes uncomfortable.

Shitastic - This is an extreme antonym of "fantastic".
