Official Description[edit]

General Chemistry II with Lab (24-116/117)
A continuation of Chem 24-114.
[24-114 Description] - Beginning course for science majors with a good high school background in chemistry. This course involves a study of basic molecular structure, periodic relationships, and a thermodynamic approach to reaction systems.

Overview[edit]

Thermodynamic systems, and really just general chemistry.

What actually happens[edit]

Chem II is a immemorable collection of chemical concepts. Fortunately this will allow you to have almost a fresh start when you go to a real college and take chemistry. The only major additions to Chem I material are the concepts of molarity (moles per liter), molality (moles per kilogram), enthalpy, and entropy. You might say it goes into further detail than did Chem I, and you do less drawing, but the difference is profoundly fuzzy.

In the past year, Northwest chemistry classes have adopted the online tutorials known as OWLs. These are known to cause more frustration than is typically healthy, as an unwarrented degree of perfection is expected of the student, and typos can cause you to have to redo minutes of work.

It has also been observed that the instruction seems to be dropping off while test difficulty seems to be increasing, though this is difficult to validate, as people rarely take the same class twice. This may also be an example of Academite cynicism.
