What Actually Happens[edit]

Colloquium might be considered the Second Year student analog to Seminar. However, the only similarity is in the number credit hours you receive. And the prospect of reducing credits to one per year (rather than the traditional one per semester) has been discussed. During the first portion of the class, you have lectures on how to write college essays, how many schools to apply to, and the like. For the latter half of the first semester, you are supposed to meet in groups based on your intended major (or for the less decisive, subject you really like). This doesn't really happen, and some groups have met only once during this time, effectively accomplishing nothing during that time.

Colloquium is apparently also where community service projects are chosen for May Session.

Davy: Well, I was in Rob's colloquium (you keep the same leader as you had for seminar), and I was told that colloquium's focus had shifted to more of a community service aspect (my theory on why is that the Discoverers were so vehemently opposed to the college info that Diana couldn't take anymore). However, though there were several pseudo-attempts to meet as a whole, we managed to go through the entire year without meeting OR accomplishing anything. Now, if I still get my credit hour for this, I will call it the best class ever.
